Job Description
The City of West Linn is seeking responsible, enthusiastic, and outgoing individuals to join our team as a temporary (non-benefited) Youth Recreation Supervisor to work in the Parks and Recreation Department's summer programs June through August. Youth Recreation Supervisors are full time and will work 40 hours a week with some weekend and evening work throughout the summer.
We are looking for Youth Recreation Supervisors to lead and collaborate with camp staff in providing fun, safe, and educational experiences for campers (ages 5-12). Site Supervisors will play a key role in designing, planning, and implementing camp activities, while offering guidance and support to camp staff. Building positive relationships with staff, parents, and campers is essential to creating a welcoming and engaging summer camp environment. In this role, you will oversee and coordinate the daily operations of summer programs, manage staff and participants and ensure the maintenance of accurate records, including detailed reports of any incents or accidents. Previous Recreation experience is strongly preferred.
Veterans Preference
The City of West Linn provides qualifying veterans, disabled veterans, state service members, or former state service members” with preference in employment in accordance with state law. Any candidate wishing to have their qualifying veteran's preference applied to the process must submit a qualifying document (DD Form 214 or 215) at the time of application as well as the City's Veteran's Preference Form, providing proof of eligibility that includes discharge status.
Disabled veterans must also submit a copy of their Veteran's disability preference letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs at the time of application, unless the information is included in the DD Form 214 or 215.

- Ability to effectively communicate with other supervisors, youth recreation leaders, camp directors, and campers.
- In charge of designing, planning, and implementation of the summer camp program you are assigned.
- Play games and activities with all campers while also supervising campers and staff closely.
- Be responsible for the safety of all camp participants.
- Take continual attendance of the campers.
- Supervising staff with guidance from the Recreation coordinator and summer camp director
- Assists with responding to parent questions and concerns about summer camp.
- In charge of daily check in and check out
- Responsible for getting daily supplies and returning supplies at the end of each day.
- Assists camp director in managing campers and staff when taking them on offsite field trips or walking field trips.
- Take proper care of all camp equipment and supplies.
- Work cooperatively as a team member with all other staff members.
- Assists in leading weekly staff meetings either before or after camp.
- Works outdoors in all different types of weather
- Work a regular schedule typically Monday-Friday 8am-4pm
- Maintains a positive relationship with contacts specific to them and positions outside the city organization.
- Requires daily attendance
- Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age.
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications required (Free training is provided before camp starts)
- Ability to withstand a physically demanding job (very active, and outdoors)
- College students enrolled in areas of Leisure Studies, Recreation, Education or P.E. are encouraged to apply.
- Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment screening process.
