The Senior Tax Accountant is a pivotal position within the finance and taxation domain of an organization in India. This role involves managing complex tax compliance, planning, and advisory functions, ensuring adherence to local and international regulations, and supporting strategic tax initiatives. The Senior Tax Accountant acts as a technical expert for the company's direct and indirect tax matters and collaborates closely with internal stakeholders and external consultants.

Job Summary
The Senior Tax Accountant is a pivotal position within the finance and taxation domain of an organization in India. This role involves managing complex tax compliance, planning, and advisory functions, ensuring adherence to local and international regulations, and supporting strategic tax initiatives. The Senior Tax Accountant acts as a technical expert for the company's direct and indirect tax matters and collaborates closely with internal stakeholders and external consultants.
Essential Duties/Responsibilites
- Tax Compliance: Oversee the preparation, review, and filing of all direct and indirect tax returns (including Income Tax, Goods and Services Tax (GST), Tax Deducted at Source (TDS), and Transfer Pricing) in a timely and accurate manner.
- Tax Planning & Advisory: Advise management on tax-efficient structures, evaluate the tax implications of business transactions, and proactively identify opportunities for tax optimization.
- Assessment & Litigation: Represent the company before tax authorities for assessments, appeals, and audits. Prepare and review submissions, documentation, and coordinate with external consultants and legal advisors for ongoing tax disputes or litigation.
- Transfer Pricing: Maintain transfer pricing documentation, support planning and benchmarking, and ensure compliance with local and global transfer pricing requirements.
- Tax Accounting: Ensure accurate tax provisioning and reconciliations in compliance with Ind AS/IFRS requirements. Support statutory audits and internal reporting on tax matters.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on changes in Indian tax laws, regulations, and judicial pronouncements, and communicate relevant updates and potential impacts to management.
- Process Improvement: Implement and enhance internal controls for tax-related processes. Drive automation initiatives to improve efficiency and accuracy in tax compliance.
- Cross-Functional Support: Collaborate with finance, legal, and business units to provide tax advice on contracts, new business ventures, and cross-border transactions.
- Documentation & Record-Keeping: Maintain comprehensive tax records, documentation for audits, and support data requests from internal and external auditors or regulators.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Complies with all policies and standards
Education
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience - preferred
- General education, vocational training and/or on-the-job training
- Typically 6+ years 4-5 years of progressive experience in taxation, preferably in a large Indian corporate, MNC, or Big 4 consulting firm - required
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)-APA CPP - preferred
- Chartered Accountant (CA) - required
- Understanding of tax principles in addition to accounting and business procedures
- Ability to perform tax research and effectively communicate (written and verbal) income tax accounting and compliance issues
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)!
- Experience with RIA Checkpoint, OneSource Income Tax, OneSource Tax Provision, and/or Oracle ERP a plus
- A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace!
