Principal Java Engineer (Apache Ecosystem) at BairesDev We are seeking a Principal Java Engineer with deep expertise in Apache project contribution, open source development, distributed systems, and performance optimization in big data contexts. The technology stack includes popular open source Apache projects - Iceberg, Kafka, Spark, Hive, Ozone, Hadoop, Trino, and related ecosystem tools. This role goes beyond development: the ideal candidate will set the technical direction, drive architectural decisions, and influence both internal engineering practices and the broader Apache open source community. You will partner with senior leadership to define long-term strategy while ensuring delivery of innovative, high-performance distributed solutions. What You'll Do: - Drive technical vision and strategy for using Apache ecosystem projects (Iceberg, Kafka, Spark, Hive, Ozone, Hadoop, Trino) in large-scale data solutions. - Serve as a key leader and recognized authority in open source contributions. - Define and oversee the design of highly scalable and resilient Java-based distributed systems. - Establish best practices and performance standards for big data applications across teams. - Mentor and empower Staff and Senior Engineers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing. - Influence cross-functional engineering decisions and align technical initiatives with business objectives. - Lead innovation initiatives and guide the evolution of open source frameworks within the Apache ecosystem. What we are looking for: - 10+ years of experience in software development with strong Java expertise. - Proven track record as a leading contributor to Apache open source projects, with recognized impact in the community. - Exceptional expertise in open source development methodologies, governance, and community leadership. - Extensive knowledge of distributed systems architecture, scalability, and advanced performance optimization. - Demonstrated ability to set technical strategy, influence cross-team decisions, and deliver high-impact results. - Experience mentoring and leading senior technical talent. - Advanced level of English.
