About the Role

Optym is seeking an experienced Optimization/Operations Research Scientist to design and develop algorithms that power decision engines for the transportation industry. You will focus on optimization problem modeling, algorithm development, performance testing/enhancement, and engine integration into production-level systems. Your work will translate complex real-world constraints into robust, scalable solutions used daily in industrial operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Working closely with customers or product team to understand business needs
• Create optimization models for business problems
• Design algorithms and perform proof-of-concept studies
• Designing and architecting software products
• Program algorithms using C# and other object-oriented programming languages
• Design and document algorithms using MIP, Network Optimization and Discrete Optimization
• Analysis data using Excel, Python and R
• Assist in designing decision support system to package algorithms developed
• Interact with end users to explain model behavior, model outputs, and calibration parameters

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D./Master’s degree in industrial engineering or Operations Research or related areas
• 3+ years of experience working in solving Network Optimization problems
• Proficiency with at least one modern high-level programming language such as C#, Python, or C++
• Experience in using commercial MIP solvers such as Xpress, Cplex and Gurobi. Background in modeling and optimization
• Excellent problem-solving, data analytics and communications skills
• Ambition to real-world problems faced by companies
• Strong background in modelling large scale discrete, nonlinear, or stochastic mathematical optimization models and
• Ability to convey rigorous mathematical concepts and considerations to technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Worked with modeling and simulation applications, with knowledge of agent-based, discrete-event methods & experimental design
• High level strategic thinking and ability to understand business problems
• Domain knowledge of transportation industry
